A pregnant Philadelphia woman was shot dead after her baby shower unloading gifts from her car amid rising gun violence and falling conviction rates in the city of brotherly love.

Pregnanat woman, 32, Jessica Covington received multiple shots to the head and belly around 8:30 p.m. at her Lawcrest home.

They took her to the Einstein Medical Center, where she and her unborn child were pronounced dead.

Police assumed the murder was a target and counted around 11 grenades at the scene.

No suspect has been identified and the incident is still under investigation.

“I mean, the person who did that couldn’t be more cowardly,” Assistant Police Director Christine Coulter told ABC6.

Coulter added that he was tired of escalating gun violence in the area.

“The city is approaching 500 murders. Babies are beaten, unborn babies are beaten, what is the city doing about it? ” She asked.

“The city as a whole is doing what we can. We can’t stop people who are trying to shoot someone.

“When I look at this situation, it seems like someone pointed it out and looked for it.”

Coulter isn’t the only person upset about the ongoing violence, local residents have also raised concerns.

“Enough is enough,” said neighbor Tom McDonald to ABC. “It’s time for the city to do something, something.”

Mayor Jim Kenney announced a $ 50,000 reward for clues leading to an arrest.

“This news is deeply disturbing and heartbreaking,” Kenney tweeted.

This shoot is not the first in Philadelphia on Saturday.

Another man was shot dead in his car at around 3:45 a.m. at 5100 block on F Street.

They shot him through the driver’s door and shot him in the head.

There were 491 murder victims in 2021, up 13% from 436 the previous year.

The Philadelphia Police Department and District Attorney Larry Krasner, a progressive Democrat devoted to criminal law reform, have noted the sharp decline in gun crime-related convictions.

This year, the Philadelphia Police Department made a record number of arrests for illegal gun possession, but the likelihood of convicting suspects has decreased by nearly 15% over the past four years, from 63% in 2017 to 49%. 2021, according to an analysis by the Philadelphia Inquirer published in March.

Police Commissioner Quoted

Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw was previously quoted as saying that since Krasner took office in January 2018, Philadelphia’s criminal justice system has become a “revolving door” for repeat offenders with firearms.

In September 2020, the Philadelphia City Council passed a resolution calling on Kenney to make gun violence a citywide emergency as the shootings continued to escalate.

“Please know that our government is taking this crisis very seriously,” Kenney said in a statement last year, according to Fox News.

“We strive to work with all of our criminal justice and community partners to create a safer city for all of us. ”
